When a firefighter or police officer is injured,
their family suffers a devastating loss of income.
Most cities and communities have limited funds to
continue injured-on-duty pay. If a firefighter or police
officer qualifies for long term disability, it is paid at a
substantially lower rate than full salary (50-60%).
Additionally, many firefighters and police officers
work second jobs to supplement their income and this
extra income is lost when an injury or illness occurs.
With severe injuries/illnesses, the spouse often
becomes a full time caregiver, further reducing the
family’s income potential.
Thousands of first responders suffer duty related
injuries or illness every year. Many can eventually
return to work, but some are permanently disabled
with life altering conditions. HTGG has helped to
raise thousands of dollars to aid these fire fighters
and their families.
